Two TEDx Talks under 20 minutes on health equity

Recently, a coworker shared two wonderful TEDx talks on health equity. Think you don't have time for them? Think again! Both are under 20 minutes.

1.  Verna Myers: How to overcome our biases? Walk boldly toward them. In this TED talk, Verna covers three main points:

#1 Get out of denial. "Stop trying to be good people. We need real people." Verna says even though she deals with health equity everyday, she still has biases.

#2 Walk towards your discomfort. "Biases are a stories we make up about people before we know who they actually are. But how are we going to know who they are when we have been told to avoid and be afraid of them?" Verna challenges spectators to take inventory over who they surround themselves with.

#3 When we see something, we have to have the courage to say something. When it is someone you love, it is especially hard, but have courage and be a role model!

2. Renaisa S. Anthony MD, MPH: A Recipe for Health Equity in the 21st Century

Renaisa defines "momentum" as monumental moments that move you forward towards massive action. She discusses the impact of race, gender, and background on her life and the lives of the people she serves. Spoiler! She shares a recipe around the 16 minute marker.
