WWC offers a Colposcopy training scholarship announcement

Women’s Wellness Connection (WWC) is pleased to announce a colposcopy training scholarship opportunity that will allow for additional WWC and Title X Family Planning Program (FP) providers to become trained as colposcopists. This scholarship is available to WWC and FP providers that have no experience in colposcopy and for those with experience, but are in need of a refresher.

One of the WWC program’s goals is to reduce structural barriers to cervical cancer screening and diagnostic services. WWC intends to increase access to colposcopy services for underserved women by offering training to providers working at agencies with WWC clinical services, WWC care coordination or FP contracts. Increasing client access to colposcopy services will improve quality of care, reduce barriers to obtain diagnostic procedures, and improve the ability to meet CDC required core indicators for cervical cancer screening and diagnostic services.

Scholarship recipients will receive reimbursement for conference registration and airfare paid prior to the conference dates (due no later than June 15). Lodging (not to exceed $1,000.00), travel expenses (not to exceed $1,000.00), and meal per diem (not to exceed $59.00/day) reimbursement will be made once receipts and invoice are received following the completion of the conference. Please use your agency’s meal per diem policy to calculate these reimbursement amounts. These amounts must not exceed Domestic CONUS per diem rates. Lodging and meal per diem receipts must be submitted within 14 business days following the completion of the training in order to receive this additional reimbursement (due no later than August 18).

The total amount of scholarship cannot exceed $5,000.00 per agency and reimbursement will be made to the WWC or FP agency at which the recipient is employed. Reimbursement cannot be made to individual persons. Conference registration is limited to the American Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology’s (ASCCP) Comprehensive Colposcopy course in Providence, Rhode Island July 27-30, 2016. The total number of scholarships awarded is dependent upon available funding.

Upon return from ASCCP’s Comprehensive Colposcopy training, a copy of the certificate of completion must be submitted to the WWC Nurse Consultant. In order to be awarded a scholarship, the recipient shall agree to complete, at a minimum, Tier 2 ASCCP Colposcopy Mentorship Program components after completing the training. Completion of Tier 3 is highly recommended. The scholarship recipient shall agree, to the extent possible, to continue providing colposcopy services to WWC or FP clients for a minimum of one year after completing the training.

Scholarship Eligibility:

  1. The applicant must be a physician, nurse practitioner or certified nurse midwife on Colorado’s Advanced Practice Registry, or a physician assistant currently licensed to practice in the state of Colorado.
  2. The provider must be currently providing clinical services to WWC or FP clients.
  3. The applicant must submit a completed application by May 17, 2016. Incomplete applications or applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
  4. Upon acceptance of the scholarship, the recipient must register for the Comprehensive Colposcopy course on July 27-30, 2016 in Providence, Rhode Island by completing the ASCCP registration form. The registration form must be completed by June 1, 2016. The scholarship recipient is responsible for submitting receipts for lodging, travel and meal per diem within 14 business days following the end of the conference (no later than August 18, 2016).
